Facilities
Our primary waterfront facilities include three certified marine railways and two floating dry docks, capable of handling vessels up to 3800 long tons. We have eleven piers and one quay wall varying in lengths of up to 520 feet, with a water depth of 25 feet at normal low tide. Crane and material handling services are provided by our five certified cranes with lifting capacities of up to fifty tons and booms of up to110 feet. Our fifth crane is barge mounted with a 60-foot boom and 15 ton lifting capacity. We currently have over 100,000 square feet of covered and heated shop space devoted to our trades. Each individual shop is outfitted with the necessary equipment required of the individual trade. Our principle business is dry-docking, repair and conversion of vessels up to 400 feet long and 3800 long tons. We also have extensive experience in making repairs to larger vessels at anchorage, at navy and commercial piers, and other locations available to us. We also have the capability of being mobile on a long distance basis accomplishing major work in other ports on the east and gulf coasts.
Lyon Shipyard currently holds an Agreement for Boat Repair with the Navy, and Master Ship Repair Agreements with the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Army, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and NOAA. Additionally, Lyon Shipyard provides on-going service and repairs to numerous local-shipping services on an on-call basis. Lyon Shipyard meets and exceeds the Quality Assurance requirements and Material Control Processes of MARMC, American Bureau of Shipping and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Yard Services
Lyon Shipyard is a full service shiprepair facility. We provide each one of our customers unparalleled attention and high quality service. All vessels mooring at Lyon Shipyard have access to shore power, compressed air to 150psi, potable water, and sewage connection. In addition to these pier-side facilities, Lyon Shipyard provides professional office accommodations to each vessel representative and port engineer. Our office facilities include clean, private restrooms, secure office space, office furniture including refrigerator, high speed internet service through wall junction or Wi-Fi, on-site parking within feet of the vessel and a café/grill within the yard for breakfast and lunch. Each of our port engineer offices is cleaned daily and there is always coffee and bottled water at hand.

Sheet Metal Shop
With over 75 years combined experience in the sheetmetal industry and increasingly new state of the art equipment, Lyon Shipyard is capable of fabricating and installing all types of custom made products to serve both the commercial and government shiprepair industry.
A newly acquired 12ft shear will allow our shop to use up to 1/4" mild steel or up to 3/16" stainless steel in the multitude of projects our skilled employees tackle every day. During the fabrication process, our workers have a number of resources for high quality, efficient completion of your company's needs. Resources such and tig welding, mig welding, stick welding and a clean, crisp plasma cutter. Also available are numerous rollers, brakes and spot welders.

Pipe Shop
Lyon Shipyard's pipe shop is established in the yard with over 150 years of combined pipe fitting experience. Many of our pipe fitters have over 15 years of commercial and government pipe fitting. Their expertise promises a quality pipe repair project our customers will be happy with every time.

Inside Machine Shop
Our inside machinists combine to have over 110 years of experience. Coupled with two fully equipped shops totaling over 15,000 square feet of workable shop space, Lyon Shipyard can provide high quality, efficient machine and fabrication services.
Our inside machine shop is also capable of manufacturing and reconditioning propulsion shafts to USCG and ABS standards.
To maximize quality and efficiency, we have set up 3 Lincoln NA-5 subarch welders, capable of welding three shaft liners independently or all at the same time.

Outside Machine Shop
The outside machine shop at Lyon Shipyard is equipped with highly skilled machinists specializing in numerous areas of marine vessel maintenance, repair, and overhaul. Our machinists produce high quality workmanship to our customers under ever-changing time constraints in order to return our customer’s vessels to the waterfront as quickly as possible. Electric Shop
Our electrical department provides service for both the government and commercial marine vessel repairs. We provide marine electrical installations, troubleshooting and repairs with a wide range of expertise.
Our supervision, lead personnel and marine electricians have in excess of 200 years of experience in the marine electrical field.

Wood Working Shop
Rigging Shop
The Rigging shop maintains six certified cranes to service the yard. Mobile cranes include one 35 ton RTC 8035, one 50 ton RTC 8050, one 90 ton RTC 8090, and a 110 ton crawler crane. Fixed cranes include a floating hydraulic crane with 80 feet of boom capable of 10 ton lifts and a fixed wing-wall crane on our #1 drydock capable of 7 ton lifts. Rigging equipment includes: chain falls, lifting slings (both cable and nylon) and an assortment of beam clamps. Our riggers receive monthly in-house safety training.

Paint Shop
Lyon Shipyard paint department can provide, to our customers, a full spectrum of high quality marine painting and preservation services. Lyon Shipyard’s full service marine paint facility is certified in NAVSEA basic paint inspection as well as a member of the Steel Structure Paint Council (SSPC). Lyon Shipyard is host to numerous tools necessary to remove old or failing paint systems and renew the preservation to extend the working life of our customers’ equipment. Some of these tools include:
- A wheelabrator to quickly and efficiently remove paint and other coverings. Depending on thickness of the pre-existing coating, a piece of equipment can be stripped to white metal in less than an hour.
- 60’ x 40’ Blast shed capable of containing material or equipment up to 20’ tall, within which Lyon can use various methods of blasting including black beauty or garnet to remove old or failing paint systems.
- 60’ x 40’ Paint booth capable of containing, within a carefully monitored and conditioned environment area, material or equipment up to 20’ tall in order to professionally apply preservation coatings within the paint manufactures strict guidelines.
- Abrasive blasting and painting capabilities on all drydocks and railways.
- Skilled Lettering and Stenciling.
- 40,000 psi water jetting to remove unwanted or hazardous coverings.

Plate Shop
Lyon Shipyard plate shop management brings together over 200 years of maritime steel shiprepair experience. With a full staff of highly skilled welders and shipfitters, Lyon Shipyard provides the highest quality steel repair and fabrication possible to our customers.
Lyon Shipyard plate shop has numerous resources at our disposal including:
- A UNC plasma cutter capable of cutting up to 2" mild steel in sheets of up to 8' x 20'

- Plate roller with 1" capacity

Insulation Department
Lyon Shipyard insulation department has highly skilled mechanics that are able to complete a wide variety of insulation jobs in a timely manner. We are experienced in the following areas:
Thermal Insulation - Fiberglass hull board, Acoustic and A60 fire proofing.
Pipe Insulation - Rubber, kalo, fiberglass, polyimide foam and spray shields for fuel oil systems.
Machinery Insulation - Fiberglass temp matte removable insulation blankets that our fabricated in our shop with either fiberglass or silicone impregnated covering.
Boiler Refractory - Block kalo, mud and lagging on all steam systems.
Ducting Systems - Duct wrap, duct lining and metal jacketing.
